About the Project
Children’s toys was the subject for this project. Allowing only two spot colors, a cylindrical canister was designed for my own product concept. Among the requirements were logos for the parent company and product line, as well as a warning label, UPC code, age specification, and parent company contact. As my first foray into package design, it was an excellent and engaging challenge.

Through the Process
The considerations for this package included the curved surface and visual width of the item. Elements were designed to fit within sight, ensuring text could be read without having to rotate the package. Care was also taken to match up the seams as closely as possible, while still allowing for bleed shifting when the item was cut. The spot colors were chosen to convey the esthetic of old maps and ocean waves. With tints of dark brown and navy, textures such as wood, dusty paper, sea foam and even gold and silver could be portrayed. To top off the project, a lid print was made to utilize the cylinder’s shape, depicting a porthole on a ship and the imaginative destination the contents of this package might bring you to.
