About the Project
Ken Moore School of Wrapping is a family tradition- and a joke. My late grandfather was notorious for using whatever was close by for the quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to wrap a gift. Showcasing great creativity at times (bland laziness at others), a wacky wrapping job would be greeted by cheers of “Ken Moore School of Wrapping” by all who beheld it. It’s still referenced by my family today and was the subject for my own sublimation project for a printing fundamentals class. This commemorative piece was designed in Procreate and heat pressed onto aluminum plates as a special gift.
Typographic design was the creative challenge here. Hand lettering research and practice allowed for a blend of styles. Vintage blackletter, as might be found on a certificate, was designed with Victorian signage elements in color, placement, and decorative motifs. With the humorous nature of the subject, a playful layout was created for the final word, featuring a three-dimensional design and paper wrap patterns. Scotch tape, a staple of gift wrapping, is referenced alongside the traditional school certificate layout, making for a fine tribute and sentimental keepsake for
